McKinney Dentist: Dr. Nathan Coughlin DDS
Board Certified Orthodontist
Dr. Nathan grew up in a small town in Alberta, Canada, where long winters and tight-knit community life shaped his appreciation for genuine connection and hard work. He brings that same grounded, people-first mindset into his approach to orthodontics, focusing on building trust and delivering care with consistency and purpose.
Dr. Nathan attended the University of Alberta and Grant MacEwan College, where he excelled academically and athletically, serving as captain of the men’s basketball team and earning recognition as a Two-Time Academic All-Canadian. He went on to the University of Southern California School of Dentistry, where he graduated with honors and achieved top national performance on the Dental Board Exam, ranking in the top four percent and positioning himself for orthodontic specialty training. While at USC, he earned multiple distinctions including the Outstanding Orthodontic Achievement Award and the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Award, completed a Master of Science focused on orthodontic innovation, and participated in international academic exchange programs in Japan and Brazil.
During his training, Dr. Nathan was actively involved in outreach work in Honduras, providing care to underserved communities, and co-founded the Student Professionalism and Ethics Club at USC to promote discussion around integrity in dentistry. He later completed his orthodontic specialty training and became a Diplomate of Orthodontics, an achievement held by only a select group of specialists.
When he isn’t busy at the dental office, Dr. Nathan enjoys meaningful conversation over a good meal and spending time with family and lifelong friends back in Canada. He especially loves to create beautiful memories with his wife, Christine, whom he met during dental school.
